Independent 3G NAS module

3G NAS provided by GateHouse Satcom is a fully compliant and independent implementation of the core non-access stratum part of a 3G protocol stack. It has been developed and matured as part of the BGAN Protocol Stack and it will fit any communication system applying ETSI an specified 3G protocol.

Reduce risk

Using an already field-proven protocol stack component reduces your risk significantly when developing an ETSI 3G compliant terminal. Protocol development traditionally has a long and at times unpredictable duration due to high complexity.

Generic and portable

Being implemented using standard C++ and having been integrated into more than 40 terminals already the 3G NAS module has proven to be a generic and portable solution fitting on many different hardware platforms, using many different Operating Systems and adhering to standardized interfaces.

Technical description

The GateHouse UMTS Non-access stratum (NAS) is an implementation of the UMTS mobility management (MM), call control management (CC), and session management (SM) in C++ and ported to a wide range of embedded platforms (vxWorks, INTEGRITY RTOS, Nucleus RTOS, QNX and others).

  • Components
  • Mobility Management (MM)
  • GPRS Mobility Management (GMM)
  • Session Management (SM)
  • GPRS Short Message Service (SMS)
  • Call Control (CC)
  • Supplementary Service (SS)
  • Location Service (LS)
  • Radio Access Bearer Management (RABM)

Used in more than 120,000 satellite communication terminals

The 3GPP/ETSI (ETSI TS 124 008) conformant implementation has been approved for and deployed in more than 120,000 satellite communication terminals for the Inmarsat BGAN network in all segments; both land, maritime, and aeronautical. The implementation has been extensively conformance tested against 3G conformance tests on multiple platforms.

With the first terminals being launched in 2004, it now has over fifteen years of continued field proven use as well as continued maintenance and upgrades.
